Deadly Surfside Condo Collapse Stemmed From Flaws Dating Back to 1981, Probe Finds
The deadly 2021 partial collapse of a condominium building in Surfside, FL, was rooted in severe design and construction flaws.
Local leaders, residents and family members gathered overnight to mark five years since the Champlain Towers South collapse in Surfside that claimed the lives of 98 people. CBS News Miami’s Marybel Rodrigues has more on how the victims are being remembered.
The partial collapse of Champlain Towers South was triggered when two connections between garage columns and the condominium’s pool deck failed, a new report said.
Investigators, in new information released about the condo that collapsed five years ago, found "no evidence of any specific initiating event."
